MAMAs Extend Registration Deadline

The Madison Area Music Association announces today that the deadline for registering music for consideration in the 7th Annual Madison Area Music Awards has been extended.

Artists can sign up and register until 11:59 PM on Friday, January 29th.

Fans can sign up now to vote as well. The first round of voting begins February 1st.

MAMAs Donate Guitars to Centro Hispano

On November 23, 2009 the MAMAs  presented several classical guitars to Centro Hispano for use in their youth music instruction program as part of the MAMAs’ continuing mission to put musical instruments in kids’ hands.

Accepting the guitars was Kent Craig, Director of the Centro Hispano Institute for the Cultural Arts.

The guitars are 7/8-size nylon string, perfect for kids and as learners for adults. The guitars were purchased from Good-n-Loud Music in Madison. They provided the MAMAs with a generous dicount on the price through Yamaha and even threw in a couple of the cases.

Channel 3 News and La Communidad newspaper were on hand o rport the event, which appeared on Channel 3 news.

MAMAs to Hold Kickoff Event Tuesday, November 23rd

It’s time to kickoff the MAMAs again. On November 24th, Broadjam will host the kickoff party for the 2010 MAMAs at our offices at 6401 Odana Road at 6-8PM. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Bring your axe and we’re sure to have a good time.

Registration for the Madison Area Music Awards 2010 is now open at www.themamas.org. The 7th Annual Madison Area Music Awards will be held May 8th at the Capitol Theater in the Overture Center. 

All musicians who make music in the greater Madison area are encouraged to enter. Last year, over 50 awards were given to artists in Album, Song, Live Performance and Instrumentalist categories. This year the MAMAs have added a Hard Rock/Punk genre to the award roll. The finalists and winners are determined by peer and fan voting. 

Broadjam.com, an international music website, will sponsor all Album entries submitted to the MAMAs. In addition, Good ‘n Loud Music, a local music instrument retailer, will sponsor all Instrumentalist and Youth award registrations. Eligible artists will receive one free entry in these categories. All other registration fees are $10 per entrant per category. The annual $5 membership in the MAMAs is required to submit and vote. Below are the key dates:

October 5, 2009 – Open registration
January 15, 2010 – Registration ends
February 1, 2010 – First voting round begins
March 18, 2010 – First voting round ends
March 28, 2010 – Final round of voting starts
April 28, 2010 – Final voting ends
May 8, 2010 – 7th Annual Madison Area Music Awards – Overture Center, Capitol Theater

MAMA, Inc. is seeking a new member to join the Board of Directors, one who has marketing skills and experience.

The Board of Directors meets once a month at present, with extra meetings sometimes called during the heat of the battle.
