Kyle Henderson’s musical life began at the age of six when his parents put a cello in his hands and said, “Practice.” It became an obsession 10 years later when he joined his first rock band and girls began saying hello to him at school.
The obsession turned into a career. Turning down a voice scholarship at Indianapolis’s Butler University, Kyle opted for the pursuit of rock stardom and hit the road. On Jan. 1, 1980, he and a group of friends formed The Producers. By the fall of that year, the band had written dozens of songs and signed a deal with a major label. The Producers recorded two albums, toured extensively and appeared frequently on this fledgling little music video channel called MTV.
After the band’s breakup, Kyle became a journalist and teacher. He moved to Madison in 1997 and works as a senior editor at UW-Madison and an instructor at MATC. He has a master’s degree in communication studies and is a frequent seminar speaker on communications topics, especially in web and social-media environments.
And of course, he still sings. A 2010 MAMA nominee, Kyle fronts Blue Eyed Soul, a fixture on the Madison music scene playing soul and blues, classic and original.
